People Throw away horses everyday. Good people, bad people, good horses, bad horses. Horses are among the easiest animals to abuse and neglect. They don't complain, they don't cry out. They endure their suffering in silence. One of Gods noblest creatures, the horse has been our partner since time began. Working beside us and sharing our heaviest loads, be they physical or emotional, the horse has always been there for us in so many ways.

Unfortunately, we are not always there for him. Indiscriminant breeding has lead for an overage of horses, and they have become an easy commodity to use and throw away. They have fallen into the hands of the irresponsible and into the hands of the greedy. A horse can be a wonderful thing, but then what do you do with him when he is too old to serve you or possibly injured or too stressed to be a reliable companion? A responsible and caring horse owner usually has their horse-friend humanely euthanized with the dignity he deserves. But others, simply dump their horse at an auction where he gathers a few dollars, and then they turn their backs, and walk away.
A lucky horse might be bought by a rescue or even another caring human being. But the majority are bought for cents by the pound and are loaded onto trucks to begin a long and treacherous trip to a horrific end at a slaughterhouse. Good horses, bad horses, young and old alike suffer this same fate.

The International Broodmare Project is dedicated to the rescue and well-being of horses all over the world, and to assist them in avoiding the horrors of slaughter. It was founded by Deb Buckler and a powerful group of model horse enthusiasts who believed they could collectively make a difference in the lives of horses in desperate situations. Our first successful rescue was a group of 20 draft cross colts stranded on a feed lot in Canada, destined for slaughter. Please read their wonderful story in "Those Feedlot Colts".
Our next rescue involved a large group of ex-Premarin mares from several farms in Canada that were closing down and needed to dispose of the mares. The mares were being threatened with being sent to a 'kill auction' where they most likely would have been bought for slaughter. Please read their beautiful and heartwarming story in "The Miracle of the Mares".

TIBBP is a world wide group of horse artists and horse lovers who have joined hands to help raise money for the betterment of horses lives everywhere. We work with several reputable rescues, Including the Animali Farm in Santa Maria California, who was instrumental in our first two rescues. We assist other rescues by fundraising for feed, supplies and even the purchase of horses off feedlots, headed for slaughterhouses in foreign countries.
It is said, that you can judge a country by the way it treats it's animals and it's old people. We are trying to make the world a better place, one horse at a time.

Those Feedlot Colts! Their rescue and what they're doing now.
The Miracle of The Mares! 90 former PMU mares escape the kill auction in Canada.
